Rotax is not even a year into its collaboration with Bombardier before the first Rotax engines for the renowned Ski-Doos come off the production line in Gunskirchen. What started in the early 1960s with a visit by Joseph Bombardier develops into friendly collaboration thanks to the commercial and interpersonal acumen of Rotax Directors Helmut Rothe and Karl Pötzlberger. In 1962, more precisely on September 21 of that year, the first Ski-Doo engines are supplied to Bombardier. More high performance and robust than previous snowmobile powertrains, snowmobiles powered by the Rotax Type 150 soon gain popularity beyond their use as utility vehicles.
